Message from Maranatha Retreat House Fund Raising Committee

Maranatha Retreat House is proud to present... The Essence of Good Cooking!

This is the fruit of a seed planted three years ago when we were planning fund raisers for the retreat house. With the generous support of the parishioners, friends and benefactors and truly by the Grace of God, we are today, able to share with you the many time-honoured home favourites.

Every recipe in this cookbook is a story and has a history. We are indeed grateful to contributors for their willingness to share their family heirlooms and secret tips on how to make the recipes a success. We have tried our best to preserve its originality for you and your children's children.

We are very touched by the many little revelations seen and felt in the recipes and their stories: how elders teach and impart values to the young; how in a society where affection is seldom expressed openly, there is so much love for family and care for friends poured in silently when cooking for them.

The response to our call for recipes was overwhelming. We thank all those who have given us their recipes. We have a tough time selecting them for the book but for reasons of space constraints and duplications many were not included.

We thank all those who have helped us put this book together; Mary, Judy, Mark, Hoch, Leonard, Christina, Ashok, Kwee Hiang, Sailor Moon, Ah Wah. They have given us their expertise and much time so freely and patiently.

We thank our sponsors who have provided the initial fund for the printing of this book.
